Journeyman Electrician, LN: 00105907: I worked for various companies from November 1979 until August 1984. Installed electrical systems in residential construction. I was a lead journeyman on various projects, though not always, and my work depended on the firm I was working for at any particular time. As lead journeyman, I supervised a varying number of people, but generally never more than five. I was responsible for having men and material on the job, installing an electrical system in accordance with blueprints and Code requirements, and completing the job on time and within budget. The individuals I supervised were journeymen electricians and apprentices. I assigned work to each individual. I made sure the journeymen were doing quality work, and I explained electrical theory, material and installation to apprentices when necessary. Otherwise, I checked the apprentices’ work to make sure it was correct. I ordered material and made sure it was on the job site when work began. I coordinated on-site time with other contractors and worked out discrepancies with city inspectors. Working out issues with city inspectors is/was a very serious matter which required considerable tactic and negotiating skills. If my company was not well represented, it cost my company money in terms of additional time and material on the job. Plus, an inspector would not approve a job if he was not satisfied with the electrical work which caused delays and substantially irritated the general contractors. A delay cost the general contractors in terms of interest payments, etc. Once a general contractor decided that a subcontractor had problems with city inspectors, the subcontractor was never again allowed to work for the general contractor. This is well known in the construction industry.
